Competitive Position in the Market: A Quick Snapshot

Companies are usually unaware of their position and their competitors' positions in the market. "Is our position competitive against the competition?"


To analyze the position, you need two parameters:

  • What is the level of importance of the value propositions in the eyes of your targeted customer segments?

  • What are the value proposition performances of ours and the competitors?



Those give us an outlook about the market as follows:

The players which are close to each others, have the similar characteristics and are competing in a specific market segment. The density of competition indicates a Red Ocean.


The questions are that:

  • which market segments should we not enter?

  • which market segments give us opportunity to grow by the means of differentiating from the other players?

  • Is there an opportunity in the market to create a Blue Ocean?
